LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A Kentucky state representative who was hurt in April of last year while trying to break up a fight has died.
DeWayne Bunch was punched in the head and fell to the floor while trying to break up a fight between two students at Whitley County High School in Williamsburg.
The teenagers involved in that fight were charged with assault. There's no word on whether those charges will be upgraded.
In October, Bunch decided to resign his seat. His wife Regina is serving the rest of his term.
Michael Goins, Communications Director with the Kentucky House Republican Caucus, released a statement saying, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Regina, her family and all those who knew and loved Dewayne as they deal with his passing."
Kentucky House Speaker Greg Stumbo also released a statement, saying, "DeWayne showed tremendous potential as a legislator, and his wife Regina has done an outstanding job in serving the remainder of his term."
