Medical center offers one-stop shopping for seniors

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB-TV) -- Some local medical centers are trying to offer one-stop shopping to patients with multiple needs.

It's called JenCare, and the goal is to answer all of the medical needs of senior citizens under one roof. Ersuline Weathers likes the concept.

At 69, Weathers is at an age where he's having more health problems than healthy days. He suffers from rheumatoid arthritis.

"I'm a diabetic. I got a stint in my heart," says Weathers.  He is also part of a local senior citizens group made up of members who are at an age where they can literally feel his pain.

Weathers says, "The group that I work with, the Over the Hill Gang -- we got quite a few seniors that need help."

Management at a new neighborhood medical center believes it has exactly what Weathers and other seniors need.

"It's all about the one stop approach. It's an opportunity for seniors to get all of their care under one umbrella," says Lisa Swan Moore, with JenCare.

The new medical centers will open in West Louisville, Valley Station and Newburg in the near future.

"In most cases, most seniors tend to have a variety of doctors in different locations.  Oftentimes, they have to go to different types of appointments during the week," says Swan Moore.

And JenCare is also trying to make it easier for seniors to check in. Everyone is given what's called a life card. When they scan it, the medical staff will have all their information.

Swan Moore says, "I hope that they see that we are all about our advanced technology and on the spot treatment."

JenCare says that on-the-spot treatment includes everything you'll find at your local doctor's office and more.

"The convenience of being able to have your lab work and your blood work, EKGs, X-rays, as well as seeing your primary care, for example."

Weathers says that's something worth looking into and plans to do that with his group.

"We can take a field day and go down and see what the place looks like."

JenCare will cater to seniors and people on Medicare.  The downtown and Valley Station locations open for business next week.
