Philadelphia youth baseball team visits Slugger Museum

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An inner city baseball team on a cross country tour stopped by Louisville today.

The Anderson Monarchs are from Philadelphia.

The team stopped at the Slugger Museum and Factory today as part of a 22-day, 45-hundred-mile journey to honor Jackie Robinson and Negro League Baseball.

The coaches are hoping to show the kids what it was like for players in Jackie Robinson's day.
Even the team's mode of transportation is a blast from the past.

"We're traveling in an authentic 1947 bus," said Anderson Monarchs coach Steve Bandura. "No air conditioning, no bathrooms, no electronics allowed on the bus. We're trying to make it as realistic as we can."

Their trip includes stops at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.
