Another installment of stuff found lying around the office. This one in honor of Billy Reed, Hall of Fame journalist and former C-J sports editor. This C-J advertisement from The Louisville Times of Feb. 24, 1984 was advertising a contest in which readers were invited to pick games against Reed. The winner won a trip to the Final Four.
Today (Thursday), if Facebook is to be believed, is Billy's birthday.
Looking through this edition, it's a Friday evening paper. The sports section ran 11 pages. Rick Bozich had traveled to Chicago to write a long feature on DePaul coach Ray Meyer. Dave Koerner in Bloomington was writing about IU basketball, and George Rorrer had a story on UK basketball. The section also included a horse racing feature by Jim Bolus, a "Body Shop" column by Bryant Stamford and Arthur Weltman and Jim Kirchner's bowling column, plus a "Sports Bazaar" collection of colorful sports items.
