LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- A new report shows that there's a growing gap in college graduations rates between low-income Kentucky residents and those who come from moderate- to high-income families.
According to the report form the Council on Postsecondary Education, the graduation rate of low-income college students fell from 46 percent to 35 percent between 2008 and 2010. In the same time period, the graduation rate of moderate- to high-income students dropped from 57 to 53 percent.
Jason Bailey, executive director of the Kentucky Center for Economic Policy, told the Lexington Herald-Leader that the widening gap is connected to a bad economy, higher tuition rates and less financial aid.
He says it's a problem that needs to be addressed.
