Governor's Scholars work on local house

LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB) -- A family of eight now has a home thanks in part to 360 students. They're part of the Governor's Scholars Program who worked on a Habitat for Humanity house.

The new home in the Russell neighborhood will house a family of Somali immigrants. The students and the home's new residents say the home went up in a flash. And the experience was unforgettable.

"It's awesome. I love how everyone is together and the kids that we work with everyday are here and just seeing our hard work. We feel like we have a bigger family than we already did," said Asha Adan, resident.

"It's amazing to be able to see their family in their home and to know that I was a part of this in creating something bigger than myself," said Brittanie Mahanna, volunteer.

The students and faculty worked alongside the family to build it in just four weeks.
