Man critically burned in Fort Wayne home blast

Posted: Updated:

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) -- A 21-year-old Fort Wayne man has been hospitalized in a burn unit after his home exploded.

Caleb Hoffman was listed in critical condition Sunday at Fort Wayne St. Joseph Hospital. He apparently was the only person in the home at the time of the blast Saturday on the city's north side. One of the other two residents of the home, 21-year-old China White, says Hoffman suffered burns across 70 percent of his body.

Fort Wayne Fire Chief Amy Biggs says it wasn't immediately clear what caused the explosion.

Northern Indiana Public Service Co. spokesman Larry Graham says utility workers have found no gas leaks or signs of gas in the area surrounding the house.
