LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- You may have heard of a flash mob... but what about a "cash mob?"
It's not about robbing local businesses -- it's about "mobbing" them with customers who want to spend money to support them. Participants agree to spend $10 each at the businesses. The event was put on by Louisville familyfun.net organizers -- just in time for the upcoming school year.
This was the first time they held a "cash mob".
"I've invited a bunch of people here today to support their local business and spend $10, because if we all get together and spend a little money at a local business it will go a long way," said Stephanie White of familyfun.net.
On Sunday people packed the Parent Teacher Store & Toys Too business on Westport Road.
"We have all the hard to find items that teachers need: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade writing tablets," said Kim Kopatz, the owner of the Parent Teacher store. "All the stuff teachers need for their classrooms."
Organizers say they got the word out through social media and plan to have more cash mobs in the future to help local businesses.
