Colts quarterback Andrew Luck can relate to the choices Cody Zeller has had to make at Indiana.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WDRB) – Indiana basketball player Cody
Zeller has been compared to a number of players in recent seasons.
Most have been basketball players. IU coach Tom Crean
believes that a comparison can be made between Zeller and a football player –
former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.
It's an interesting comparison.
Luck, of course, was recruited to Stanford by Crean's
brother-in-law, Jim Harbaugh. Luck could have jumped to the NFL after the 2010
season, but decided to return to college and chase a national title and Heisman
Trophy. Didn't happen.
Luck could have played another season at Stanford this fall,
but entered the draft. Indianapolis drafted him with the first pick. He's the
next Peyton Manning with the Colts.
Zeller can leave for the NBA whenever he chooses. He
returned to Indiana for his sophomore season. Crean said that Luck will be a
great resource, especially playing an hour from Bloomington.
"Luck could create his own market and make his own choices
based on when he was ready or if he wasn't," Crean said. "I've talked to Jim at length about it.
"Andrew could have left last year. It's a great combination.
He's a humble guy. He's a tough, hard-nosed competitor, with physical and
mental strength."
