Police looking for suspected pedophile

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY.  (WDRB-TV)--Louisville Police are desperately searching for a man they say is a dangerous child predator.  WDRB News has uncovered disturbing evidence that sparked this manhunt.  Investigators are looking for Jamar Garrett.

They say he was making pornographic movies featuring "children," and its not the first time.

We didn't find Garrett's picture on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry or the national registry.  But police say that's exactly where he belongs.

"I think anybody who would take advantage of a child is dangerous," said LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell.

"The quicker we're able to apprehend him then maybe he won't make a victim out of someone else," Mitchell said.

Earlier this month, Metro Police say Garrett's girlfriend went through some of his belongings and immediately dialed 911.

"I'm not sure why she did," Mitchell said. "We're glad she did because of what she found."

It happened at an apartment near the intersection of Taylor Blvd and Bicknell. That's where police say the woman found pornographic video of a child.

"Apparently he had made a homemade pornographic video involving this 9-year-old female who was in the care of his girlfriend," Mitchell said.

And police say this is not the first time Garrett has done something like this, according to Mitchell.

"In 2010, we had a CACU (Crimes Against Children Unit) case on him as well on sodomy," Mitchell said.

Mitchell says he also had other warrants for his arrest.

"Where do pedophiles go? They go where children are," says Dr. Stanley Frager, Ph.D.

Dr. Frager is a licensed psychologist and wouldn't be surprised if Garrett befriended the woman to gain access to the 9-year-old girl.  Frager says, "The guise that's used by pedophiles to gain access to children is things like relationships."

Meanwhile, police tell us why they suspect Garrett has been able to avoid being arrested.

"One of the difficulties we had in the beginning is that he was going by an alias I believe by the name of Darnell Hamilton," said Mitchell.

Police say Garrett has been known to use a number of aliases; however, they're hoping someone watching knows who he is and will call them.  Here's the number to the anonymous LMPD crime tipline at 502-574-LMPD (574-5673).
