LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested a Louisville mother who left her three small children alone in a car in 95 degree heat.
It happened on Thursday afternoon, shortly after 3 p.m. on S. 3rd St., near W. Breckinridge St.
Police say 23-year-old Kamela P. McClanahan left her children, who were between the ages of 2 and 5, inside a 2000 tan Lincoln Towncar. The vehicle was left running, but there was no air conditioning, and the temperature outside was 95 degrees, according to the arrest report.
Police say McClanahan, "placed her children in a severe risk of injury and/or death due to her actions."
Officers say McClanahan told them she "only left them in the car for a few minutes" while she went inside a nearby building to get something to drink.
Police say that was enough to charge her with three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment.
She was arrested at the scene.
