Jay Bilas for Big East commissioner? That's Rick Pitino's pick
I'm not sure what Big East football coaches are going to
think about this idea (I can only imagine), but Louisville basketball coach
Rick Pitino has settled on his nominee for the next commissioner of the Big
East:
Jay Bilas.
Yes, the former Duke player and current ESPN college basketball
analyst, with the penchant for Tweeting Young Jeezy lyrics.
Bilas, who has a law degree, has been a thoughtful and
persistent commentator on all sorts of NCAA issues. He's been a particularly
harsh critic of NCAA hypocrisy on issues of paying players and lapses in
integrity for university presidents and administrators.
This is what Pitino said in his blog are the four qualities the next Big
East leader needs:
"-A presence that Presidents and Athletic Directors will respect.
-A strong personality and creative thinker.
-A television background and a total understanding of the diversity
of its constituents.
-An ability to bring football into the limelight."
Pitino proceeded to suggest the Big East take some of the money the league is going to receive from departing Pitt and Syracuse to draw up a five-year, $10 million contract for Bilas.

I think it's a superb idea. Bilas is ready to change the NCAA
model and move Division I sports into today's world. If he's interested, he's
certainly somebody the Big East poohbahs should interview.
What say you?
