Indiana boating accident sends two people to hospital

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police are investigating a boating accident on Patoka Reservoir that sent two people to the hospital Saturday afternoon.

32-year-old Leslie Ash was operating a jet ski in rough waters near Patoka Reservoir's Goose Island when the jet ski hit a wave and knocked her passenger, 14-year-old Preston Barrett, Jr., off of the watercraft. Ash was also thrown into the water.

Barrett was transported to Kosair Children's Hospital with head injuries and Ash was taken to University of Louisville Hospital with back injuries.

Police say both Barrett and Ash were wearing life jackets, which Indiana Conservation officers say played a role in the fact that it was an injury accident and not a fatality accident.

They do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
