Louisville, Ky. (WDRB) -- UPS delivery drivers are like fine tuned athletes. They are in excellent shape and put in long hours to get the job done.
Sterling Riggs rode along with Matthew Kerr. He's been with UPS for 15 years. Like most drivers, he started part time sorting boxes and through hard work was promoted to a delivery driver. He says from clock in to clock out you have to be on it.
On average the driver visits up to 100 businesses a day dropping off nearly 400 packages.
Kerr wears out a pair of shoes about every three months.
Everything these drivers do from getting out of truck to the routes they drive is designed to maximize efficiency.
Despite being back breaking work, Kerr says this is a job that he loves and says it's a coveted position where employees can earn a good living.
He has a history degree from the University of Louisville but can earn more money working for Louisville's largest company.
In this line of work, taking care of your body is key for career longevity.
"Even if you're 20, you will feel like you are 40 if you don't use proper body mechanics," said Kerr.
He hopes to continue racking up miles for the brown army in his signature truck for many years to come.
