LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A New Albany man accused of killing his former girlfriend will stay in jail.

Ivan Chambers was denied bond at a hearing Monday afternoon.  He's been charged with murder in the shooting death of 23-year-old Amanda McAnelly.

McAnelly was killed as she went to an apartment on Plaza Drive to pick up her young daughter and some of her belongings.  According to court documents, the little girl was taken outside, where she told her grandmother "Mommy's sick; Daddy shot Mommy."

As Chief Deputy Prosecutor Steve Owen explains, "That's a very traumatic event for this young girl to have to go through. We are in the process of investigating that and interviewing that child through the use of experts in that field."

New Albany Police Chief Sherri Knight says the child was not hurt and was placed with Child Protective Services.

Chambers could be sentenced to up to 65 years in prison if found guilty of murder.
