Police release photos of TARC bus shooting suspects

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police are hoping a series of still images will help them identify several persons of interest in Monday afternoon's deadly shooting on a TARC bus.

The images show a woman in a pink and white striped shirt, a man in a black "Just Do It" shirt and another man in a white shirt. Metro Police say they are all considered to be "persons of interest" in the case.

The shooting unfolded just before 3 p.m. at the intersection of Goldsmith Lane and Bardstown Road. Police say a suspect or suspects boarded the bus and then one fatally shot a victim described as a black male in "late teens or early 20s." The suspects then left the scene.

The names of those involved have not been released. Witnesses described a chaotic scene with passengers running immediately after the shooting as police scrambled to the intersection. Crime scene tape surrounded the bus for most of the day as crime scene technicians and homicide detectives worked to collect evidence and interview any witnesses.

A woman, who asked not to be identified, said her daughter was on the bus when the victim was shot.

"She is fine. I'm still upset. My stomach is upset but she appears to be okay," the woman said. "The police were really nice. They helped calm her down but I'm a basket case."

Richard Walton, who works at the nearby Quality Inn and Suites, witnessed the chaos afterwards.

"I get out and I see everybody running and there was a lot of commotion," said Walton.

Homicide detectives collected surveillance video from the hotel as well from at least two different cameras, a source told WDRB News reporter Bennett Haeberle.

Police did not say or would not speculate on the relationship between the suspects and the victim. Anyone who might be able to help identify the persons of interest is urged to call the anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD (574-5673).
