LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- St. Matthews Police say they're investigating a bizarre incident involving a homeless man who raped a woman inside her own home. Police say it happened on Friday afternoon.

According to an arrest report, detectives were called to the St. Matthews Police Department to interview a woman who claimed she had been raped.

The woman allegedly told them that 34-year-old Jonathan Leach was doing some electrical contracting work inside her apartment. While there, he allegedly raped her. Afterward, police say he left the room. Police say Leach was at the apartment with another contractor. But police say the other contractor says he didn't hear anything because he was in a different room.

Police say Jonathan Keith Leach is on the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry. WDRB News did a search of the registry and found his listing, which indicates that he is a non-compliant sex offender, originally placed on the registry after he sexually abused an 11-year-old. Police say that case happened in 2000 in Lexington and because he's a non-compliant sex offender his name is still on the registry.

Leach was arrested Monday afternoon on Mulberry Street, near Hoertz Avenue. Police say Leach told them he does not have a permanent residence and that he sleeps under a viaduct.

Neighbors say a homeowner on Mulberry Street has a good heart and say they've seen Leach living there for the past couple of months. They say the homeowner has taken in several homeless people.

He's been charged with rape and failure to comply with the sex offender registry (for failing to notify the Department of Probation and Parole of a change in his address).

Leach told the judge he has a child he supports, but says he was fired from Cardinal Electric after Friday's alleged incident.

At the business, a sign is up looking for a new electrician and no one was there. The business hasn't returned our calls for comment.

Leach maintains his innocence.  He says, "I mean for real, all I did was went for a job."

In court, the judge said to Leach, "Your bond is remaining at $50,000. I'm denying you the bail credit, because I deem you a danger to our community."
