Woman uses chalk to protest proposed Louisville ordinance

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A one-woman protest is taking on a proposed ordinance that she says targets the homeless.

Tracy Johnstone is concerned about an ordinance that Metro Council is set to take up on Thursday. It would prohibit tents and camping equipment on any city property that's less than three acres.

That became an issue during the recent Occupy Louisville protests -- but Johnstone is using signs and sidewalk chalk markings to say it's unfair.

"The problem with it is...that it's worded so openly that it's a huge dragnet for every homeless person in the city who may possibly use a tarp during the winter," Johnstone said. "That's considered camping paraphernalia."

Johnstone says Metro Councilwoman Madonna Flood has reassured her that the ordinance would not be used against the homeless.
