Police release victim's name in TARC shooting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have released the name of a teen who was shot dead while riding a TARC bus Monday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Rico C. Robinson, Jr. He was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

Tyreek Brown, Robinson's cousin, said Tuesday, "Found out from Facebook for real, and it was like RIP Rico Robinson."  And Robinson's friend Shavé George reacted, "He's just a 17 year old kid. I mean that's just senseless."

Loved ones huddled together on a step outside Norfolk Acres Park on Tuesday, remembering Rico Robinson, and still stunned that the last time he was here would also be the last time they'd see him alive.  "I just seen Rico the day before yesterday," George said.  "We was playing basketball, to be honest with...Yeah, man, it's tough."

Police are looking for several "persons of interest" on the bus at the time of the shooting. They would like to talk with the woman in the pink and black shirt seen talking on a cell phone in the photo as well as the man wearing a black shirt with "Just Do It" written on it.

They're also looking to speak with the man in the white shirt who can be seen getting into a white Camaro after the shooting with the man wearing the "Just Do It" shirt.

Police were called to the intersection of Bardstown Road and Goldsmith Lane just before 3 p.m. on July 23. That's where police say a suspect or suspects boarded the bus and shot the victim.

Richard Walton, who works at the nearby Quality Inn and Suites, witnessed the chaos afterwards.

"I get off and I see everybody running and there was a lot of commotion," said Walton. "And the police were coming -- and the police got here fast. That's what surprised me is how fast police got here."

Police would not speculate on the relationship between the suspects and the victim. They are asking anyone who recognizes the people shown in the surveillance photos to call the anonymous crime tipline at 574-LMPD (574-5673).
