LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A couple weeks before the first day of school, roles are reversed.
Students are showing their teachers a thing or two about themselves.
Jamie Flynn knocks on the door of her future kindergartner. As a teacher, she loves to see their reaction. She says, "Seeing their faces when we show up at their house, it is just a huge thing for them when we show up. It's whoa, they're taking the time to come to our house and they just get really excited."
Flynn is one of three Crossroads Elementary teachers who weaved their way through town, reaching out to their new students.
The school started the home visit program when it opened three years ago. All the teachers knock on every door, of every student, in every grade.
Amy Crumbacker, another teacher says, "It's just a chance to get to know them on a more personal level. They like us to come by to show us their favorite toy or their room or something that's special to them."
Parents say it helps build the relationship before school even starts, making their children more comfortable about the first day.
Tonya Thompson has two kids going to Crossroads next year. She says, "I think these visits are really nice, I think they're really good opportunities to meet the teachers. You feel like you get to know them on a personal level more."
Teachers say these visits really get the families involved, and it helps the students start off on the right foot.
