UPS Repair Affair helps build wheelchair ramp

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- They're experts at fixing UPS planes, but on Wednesday it was a wheelchair ramp they were working on.

A group of UPS aircraft maintenance workers spent the day building a ramp on a home in Germantown.  It's part of the one-day UPS Repair Affair.

Groups of UPS workers joined New Directions Housing Corporation and spent time helping older and disabled homeowners fix problems around their homes.

The ramp will help an 84-year-old woman get in and out of her home on Fetter Avenue.

Brad Schwandt of UPS Aircraft Maintenance explains, "Some people have strokes, some people just have arthritis, things like that, and they can't get up and down stairs and they're confined to their home and so what we do is we provide an easy way for them to get in and out of their house."

This year, Repair Affair will impact 150 homes across Kentuckiana.
