In November, Indiana will play Georgia in Brooklyn, followed by a game with UCLA or Georgia
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The Indiana University basketball team will be playing a Southeastern Conference opponent next season. It just won't be Kentucky.
IU announced that Tom Crean's fifth Indiana team will be matched against Georgia in the first round of the Legends Classic from the Barclay Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Hoosiers and Bulldogs will play at 5:30 p.m. on Monday Nov. 19 on ESPNU.
Georgia finished 15-17 last season, winning only five of 16 SEC games. Indiana returns all five starters from its 27-9 team. Center Cody Zeller will be one of the top candidates for the Wooden Award.
Georgia loses top scorer Gerald Robinson, but returns Kentavioius Caldwell-Pope, one of the best freshmen in the SEC last season. Mark Fox has also added three 3-star recruits, led by guard Kenny Gaines.
The following day the Hoosiers will play either UCLA or Georgetown. The Bruins and Hoyas will play the second game on Nov. 19. The winners and losers play on Tuesday. UCLA has a freshman class considered the nation's best by many.
The championship game, set for a 10 p.m. tip, will be carried by ESPN.
Sounds like a Dick Vitale and Dan Shulman moment.
