Large bond set for Joe Ray

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man will need $100,000 to get out of jail.  That was the bond set for Joe Ray.

After being released from University Hospital in a wheelchair, Ray faced a judge for charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence.  He pleaded not guilty to killing 27-year-old Antwain Watkins.

Police say Ray and Watkins got into an argument and both of them pulled guns on each other.  Police say Ray shot Watkins several times and Watkins died at his home off of South 39th Street, near Broadway.

Mark Gaston, Ray's attorney, said Friday morning, "Judge there have also been threats made to the family, to my client.  I would like to ask that he be placed in protective custody at this time for the family's request."

The judge granted that request.
