LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Opening statements got under way late Tuesday morning in the trial of a woman accused of causing the death of 2-year-old son by leaving him in a hot car.

Mollie Shouse was charged with murder in 2011, after her son was found dead in her car outside the Devonshire Apartments.

The coroner's office says 2-year-old Kenton Brown died from environmental hyperthermia.

Police say he had been in the car for several hours.

Shouse also faces other drug-related charges.
