HIDDEN HERO: Local firefighter gives back to everyone

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB) - Running into burning buildings, rescuing people from car accidents and helping children with special needs, it's all in a day's work for one Louisville man.

"You never really know when you go in to a burning building if you're going to come out," said Chaddie Keith, nominated Matt Keith as July's Hidden Hero.

It has been said that there is not greater love than to lay down one's life for another. Jeffersontown Fire Captain Matt Keith lives that everyday, it's his job.

He can be found on any given day racing toward danger and running into burning buildings, risking his own life to save others.

"He's definitely a one of a kind man, he is the sweetest most loving person I've ever met in my life and he definitely goes above and beyond," said Chaddie Keith.

She is Captain Keith's daughter. Chaddie Keith grew up watching him give to others selflessly. He raised her as a single parent all while, dedicating his life as a firefighter and most recently to special needs children.

He is the co-founder of the Kentucky Police and Firefighter's Ball. It brings in big names stars to Louisville and raises money for Kosair Children's Hospital. When he's not planning that, he's helping with other local events.

"He does the Crusade for Children and he just helps anybody he can," said Chaddie Keith.

Realizing that, she turned to WDRB to help her say thank you to the hero in her life and so many others.

"On behalf of WDRB I would like to present you with the Hidden Hero award for July," said Jennifer Baileys, WDRB Reporter.

Even during this moment, his moment he is still thinking of others.

"I'm just one of many that could get this so I'm honored that it's my name, but it could go to a whole lot of other people," said Matt Keith, WDRB Hidden Hero.
