New Albany church helps Henryville residents who lost homes

NEW ALBANY, IND. (WDRB) -- Some people who lost their homes in the March 2nd tornado will soon have a new place to live, thanks to a church in New Albany.

More than 300 volunteers gathered in the parking lot of Northside Christian Church in New Albany to begin framing two new houses.  The church is working with Habitat for Humanity and Crossroads Mission to put up the interior and exterior walls for the homes.

Bill Warren of Northside Christian Church said Wednesday, "That's what we're here for. As a church, we place high value on being good neighbors in the community, on just helping people. We believe that's how we can show the love of Christ to the people in our area."

WDRB meteorologist Jeremy Kappell was among the volunteers who put hammer to nail.

When the framing is finished, the homes will be taken to Henryville where the construction will be completed.
