LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Searching for a poll that Charlie Strong can love:

*First nominee: The USA Today coaches' pre-season Top 25 college football poll will be released at noon today. Odds are that you can pick your favorite SEC team out of a hat. Just make certain the hat includes LSU or Alabama.

But will Louisville make the Top 25?

I'll say yes, somewhere in the final five spots. Make it Number 23.

Feel free to file a dissent or a statement of agreement.

That should work for Strong, whose University of Louisville players have learned that their coach is more eager to share items that question the Cards' abilities than he is to share stories that talk about what a wonderful season will unfold for Louisville.

A story in USA Today mentions these four candidates for Number One: LSU, Alabama, USC and Oklahoma.

I'll say they will shake out this way: 1. LSU; 2. USC; 3. Bama; 4. Oklahoma.

*Second nominee: The Sporting News pre-season Top 25.

Louisville did not make the pre-season Top 25 there, but another Big East team did – Cincinnati. The Bearcats are 23rd, one spot behind Ohio State and one ahead of Big East deserter West Virginia.

That's interesting because the Bearcats placed no better than fourth in the Big East media poll. Cincinnati has quarterback and running back questions.

Cincinnati will not be 23rd in the coaches' poll. Or even 24th or 25th.

Or even 26th.

*Third nominee: PreSnapRead.com's countdown of the Top 123 teams in the country has reached No. 35 – and that's where Louisville is mentioned today. (Go to www.PreSnapRead.com).

That means Rutgers, with new coach Kyle Flood, is the pick to win the Big East.

Paul Myerberg has questions about Louisville's short passing game, the defensive front seven and the kicking game.
