LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Fire crews in Shepherdsville spent much of Thursday morning battling a massive fire on South Buckman Street.
Dozens of firefighters from Shepherdsville, Zoneton and Mount Washington were called out just before 3 a.m.
Bryan Metcalf was on his way home from work when he noticed the blaze and decided to investigate.
"I passed by the Shepherdsville Fire Department," Metcalf said. "I seen some trucks were still in the bay so I didn't think nothing about it, and then I when I got here I seen flames shooting and I'm like oh Lord."
A storage building behind a furniture store was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.
"It was already coming through the roof when we arrived so we weren't going to send anybody in the building," said Maj. Ted Calvert with Shepherdsville Fire & Rescue. "It was just way too dangerous. It just took a little bit to get our aerial ladder set up. Once we got them set up we just kept it contained to that one building."
The fire has caused several roads to be blocked in downtown Shepherdsville and drivers should be prepared for detours.
Emergency crews have South Buckman shut down just before Salt River Bridge. The bridge is essentially closed to traffic until crews are able to clear the area. We're told that it could be closed until at least noon.
South Joe. B. Hall or Second Street is shut down at the railroad tracks.
