Drought hurts more than half the country, especially Indiana

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- More than half of all counties in the U.S. are now considered natural disaster zones, based on damage and losses by drought and high temperatures.

The situation in Indiana has worsened in the past week.

A quarter of the state is now in the grips of an exceptional drought.

Luckily, recent rain has helped the situation in Northern Indiana.

The hardest hit part of the state spans the area between Terre Haute and Indianapolis, south to the Ohio River and about 30 miles east of Evansville.
