Washington Co., Ind. Health Dept. finds no cases of swine flu

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The health department in Washington County, Indiana, says it has learned of no cases of swine flu after a barn of pigs was closed at the county fair in Salem.

Authorities quarantined pigs Wednesday because they had fevers.  A vet sent samples from the pigs to Purdue University for testing, and those results had not yet come back as of Friday afternoon.

Swine flu is a worry in other parts of Indiana.  The state health department has confirmed five cases, including one in Jackson County and four in LaPorte County, in the northern part of the state.

A Dept. of Health call center to answer questions about Swine Flu and other strains of flu is in operation through 4 p.m. Friday and from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. weekdays starting on Monday.

The number is 877-826-0011.
