Friends of PRP murder victims send message about violent crimes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41)---"It's just one day at a time. That's all we can do," says Quiarra Dennis, Sade' Goldsmith's best friend.

The last few weeks have been hard for everyone surrounding 26-year-old Sade' Goldsmith.

The mother and her two sons, John and Jon'tee Devine, were shot and killed in their home on Maravian Drive in PRP in mid-July.

"We've just been really trying to hold onto each other. All we got is each other," says Quiarra Dennis.

Quiarra Dennis is Sade' Goldsmith's best friend. She says this is the second time they've dealt with a tragic death.

Goldsmith lost another son, Romanni, when she was just 16-years-old. He died from health complications.

"It made her a way stronger person. That's why she became a nurse and everything," says Quiarra Dennis.

She says it also made Sade' more protective when she had her two boys with John Devine.

Police charged him with the murder of Goldsmith, and their two sons.

Family members say they weren't together at the time, but at times had a violent relationship.

They still haven't come to terms about what happened, and at times have wanted to ask him about it.

"That was my question to him at first, is why. Why your babies. She loved you and you loved her dearly and your babies, and you decided to do this," says Quiarra Dennis.

They won't be asking that question anytime soon.

While Devine has appeared in court on the murder charges, Quiarra and Sade's mother haven't been in attendance yet, and are dreading what they will eventually hear if the case goes to trial.

For now they are holding onto reminders of what happened that tragic day, including flowers from the family's funeral.

They are also offering a message for others who find themselves in a violent relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

"Just go. It's not worth losing your life, your kids life. They're not only taking yours, but they're taking your family and friends life with you. Just get out," says Quiarra Dennis.

The mother of Sade' Goldsmith says they are currently working on getting a headstone made for the mother and her two boys.

As for John Devine, he was back in court this week where he was assigned a public defender.
