LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- We're days away from the start of a new school year in Henryville.
Today the school, which was hit hard by a tornado in March, opened its doors to show off five months of reconstruction.
It's not just a building, it's the heart of this community. Henryville's school is ready to welcome students back, after months of reconstruction.
People of all ages got a glimpse of the new school, realizing the Henryville Hornets can conquer just about anything.
Students and staff walked the halls, in awe of the work that was done. Few people thought rebuilding was possible in 5 short months.
Science teacher Josh Conrad says, "When you get in here and start seeing some of your old stuff and you see different new things in your classroom but you see the kids in the hallway that you've known for 7-8 years and its like well its just gonna be another school year, same group of people but a new building."
Combining the new with the old, this school still has a familiar feel.
Rebekah Ridener will be a senior next year. She says she's never been so excited for her first day of school. Ridener says, "It kinda feels different because we have new paint and it just looks different but I know its home, this is home and it always will be."
Students will be back in the classrooms for their first day of school on Tuesday.
