The University of Louisville has applied to host an NCAA men's basketball regional in 2014 and 2015.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- By all accounts, the NCAA men's tournament second- and third-round basketball games played at the KFC Yum! Center last March were a colossal success.
The sessions sold out. The open practices drew large crowds. Downtown was packed with people. A good time was had by all.
Now the University of Louisville wants to do it again.
U of L has applied to host second- and third-round men's tournament games in 2014 and 2015. U of L senior associate athletic director for media relations Kenny Klein said the school wanted to apply for regional semifinals and a final. The schedule, however, didn't work. There were not enough downtown hotel rooms because a convention had already been booked for town that weekend.
Klein said U of L might apply to host a regional semifinal and final for 2016.
The NCAA is scheduled to announce the 2014 and 2015 sites on Nov. 1.
The KFC Yum! Center will host two major NCAA events in the next seven months: The women's volleyball finals will be played here on Dec. 13 and 15 as will the first- and second-round of the women's basketball tournament on March 24 and 26.
