LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man shot and killed himself inside a Hardin County hospital, according to a statement from police.

Police say it happened shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Hardin Memorial Hospital on N. Dixie Avenue in Elizabethtown, Ky.

"The individual died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound," police say. "No one else was injured."

It is not yet clear how the man -- who was a patient at the hospital -- obtained the gun.

Police say they are still investigating.

Early Tuesday afternoon, the hospital released the following statement:

"At approximately 8:10 am a code blue followed by a code silver was announced and soon after an all clear was called.  Staff members heard a gunshot and responded quickly and appropriately following our code silver emergency procedure policy in their actions. A patient here at Hardin Memorial Hospital died as a result of a self- inflicted gunshot wound. At no time were any of our patients, their family members or our staff threatened.  Due to an ongoing police investigation we are not able to release any additional information.

We extend our sympathies to the patient's family members and ask that you keep them and our staff in your prayers over the next few days."
