LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- A female inmate who had been arrested on a theft charge was found "unresponsive" in her cell at the Louisville Metro Dept. of Corrections, and later pronounced dead.

Corrections officers found the 27-year-old woman Wednesday afternoon while they were conducting security checks.  After what a news release refers to as "initiating life-saving protocols," EMS took the inmate to U of L Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7:19 p.m.  Her name has not been released

The news release says no foul play is suspected.  LMPD's Public Integrity Unit and Corrections personnel are investigating, which is standard practice in such a death.  An autopsy was to be performed sometime Thursday.

The woman had been in Corrections since Tuesday after being arrested on a theft warrant.
