LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police says that two suspects have been arrested in connection with Saturday night's drive-by shooting that injured two children.
Police say 25-year-old Willie Simms and 27-year-old Delisha Jeffery were located a short time after the shooting at the City View Apartment Complex. The complex is located in the 1000 block of Place Vert, near the intersection of 10th Street and West Muhammad Ali Blvd.
Police say both Simms and Jeffery have been charged with two counts of assault and one count of wanton endangerment.
Metrosafe confirmed that an 11-year-old was grazed by a bullet and has a gunshot wound to the leg. Louisville Metro Police also said a 7-year-old was injured.
Police say both girls had non-life-threatening injuries and were both treated and released from Kosair Children's Hospital.
The fact that the suspects are in jail puts some people at ease.
"They want safe environments for their children," Community activist Christopher 2X. "This situation last night was very chaotic, there's some things the camera couldn't capture because they couldn't be here at that time."
People living in the neighborhood are still on edge after the violent crime involving children. Jordan Fields heard the gunshots and ran outside. Fields says, "If you're gonna open fire on the porch with kids on it and their mama is in there, I think it's just wrong."
Metrosafe officials say the shots were fired from a passing car.
