LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man they say robbed a local beauty supply store.

The alleged crime took place on June 27. Police say 19-year-old Jamonte Ford walked into the Joy Beauty Supply Store on Taylor Blvd., near Bicknell Ave., and began asking an employee to help him select merchandise.

An arrest report explains what happened next:

"He placed the selected merchandise on the counter to pay, but when the victim began to ring up the sale, above subject pulled a weapon from the front of his pants and went behind the counter with the victim, demanding, 'Give me the money.'"

When the employee was unable to get the cash register open, police say Ford hit him several times in the back of the head with his weapon and took his wallet.

Police say Ford then ran away.

Officers say they were able to trace the robbery to Ford based on a fingerprint he left behind at the scene.

He was arrested on Tuesday after a police officer spotted him riding his bike at the corner of Brook St. and Kentucky St.

Ford was charged with robbery related to the beauty supply store incident.
