LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The plan is in place, but residents can still have a say in Louisville's new VA Hospital.
The federal government recently paid nearly $13 million for property at Brownsboro Road and Interstate 264 where the hospital will be built.
Residents fought the new location because of possible traffic issues and a potential drop in home values.
But people can still give their input while the hospital is already in planning stages.
"As long as we continue to work as good neighbors with the VA and they continue to be honest and transparent, I think we should have a good result," says Crossgate Mayor Kirk Hilbrecht.
"People are resistant to change -- especially change that impacts directly with their neighborhoods. The studies and research projects that have taken place will have all of their concerns in the highest respect. I do believe that the facility is needed, and its going to serve the community and help future generations of veterans," says Navy veteran David Wingfield.
Construction is expected to start in 2014 and be complete by 2018.
The new hospital is expected to cost about $883 million.
