LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man allegedly found with a toy police badge and toy handcuffs has been arrested for impersonating a peace officer.
It happened Wednesday at 2 p.m. near the Walmart at the corner of Outer Loop and New Cut Road.
Police say 39-year-old Rolando Almenares was with a suspect who had been stopped for shoplifting. According to an arrest report, Almenares approached a witness and told him he was a law enforcement officer who was working undercover and, "didn't want to blow his cover."
When the witness asked to see his badge, Almenares allegedly pulled out a toy badge.
Police were called to the scene. When they searched Almenares' person, they allegedly found the toy badge and a pair of toy handcuffs.
Police say Almenares reiterated that he was an undercover officer.
He was arrested and charged with impersonating a peace officer -- a felony.
