Louisville's Heavenly Angels daycare owner hit with $4,000 fine

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- WDRB News has learned that Kentucky's Cabinet for Health and Family Services has hit the owner of Heavenly Angels with a $4,000 fine.

The child care center closed after one of its vans crashed into a tree in June, killing one person and injuring 15 others.  A letter from the Cabinet to daycare owner Lavonia Lewars says Heavenly Angels failed to provide for the health, safety, and welfare of its children.

A state investigation found that the van was overloaded and that the children were not properly restrained.

Lewars recently pleaded not guilty to defrauding a state daycare fund of more than $300,000.
