LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Fried food, livestock, midway rides -- they're all part of the first day of the Kentucky State Fair. Officials expect more people to attend this year.

Many people were waiting in line at noon when the fair opened. Many of them were quick to grab their favorite fair treats, including the new fried Girl Scout cookies.

Lots of people are excited about a cool forecast for the fair, including Lois Hodge, who says she wouldn't miss the fair because of high temperatures.

"We would've come anyway," said Lois Hodge. "We've never let the weather keep us from coming."

"I think it's a lot of fun," said Laura Hornback, a senior at Kentucky Country Day. "Normally we're in class. Last year we didn't get to go to the fair because we were in school."

Officials hope cooler temperatures and the fact that JCPS students haven't returned to class will mean more people can attend.

"We had over 600,000 last year," said fair board president Harold Workman. This is opening day. The weather looks great, particularly for the weekend, so I see no reason why we shouldn't break that attendance from last year. Not a record attendance but breaking last year's would be very, very nice."
