BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Bowling Green was ready for its day in the spotlight as the "American Idol" bus headed to the south-central Kentucky city as part of its small town auditions tour.
The Fox reality series is looking for contestants for its 12th season, which is set to air starting in January.
"I'm nervous, a little bit nervous," said Barbara Ash. "Excited, too....I think I have a distinct voice, strictly country."
One Louisville native, Jacquelyn Mosby, got her ticket to Hollywood: "I was like, 'What? Are you serious?' Like, for real!!"
Auditions were being held Friday in the city's Fountain Square Park, and more than a thousand people showed up.
Fountain Square Business Association President Theresa Shea told the Daily News it will give the city a chance to show off what the downtown area has to offer.
Shea encouraged members of the association to decorate their businesses and have items priced at $5 to $10 for sale to take advantage of the influx of people and welcome the tour to the city.
