Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- People are being warned not to eat melons grown in southwestern Indiana.

The Kentucky Department for Public Health found that cantaloupes grown there and shipped to Kentucky have been connected to a statewide outbreak of salmonella.

The outbreak began in early July, and has sickened at least 50 Kentuckians and been associated with two deaths.

Salmonellosis cases caused by the outbreak strain have also been reported in other states.
