Work begins to restore Marysville Community Center

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Work has finally begun to restore an historic building in Marysville, Indiana that was heavily damaged by the March 2nd tornadoes.  The Marysville Community Center was built in the late thirties as a school, and later became a popular meeting place for town residents.

It suffered $100,000 worth of damage in the storm.

Friday much of the damaged roof was removed, and architects surveyed the building to begin putting together a restoration plan.  Carolyn King of March 2 Recovery explains, "We want to get it secure from the weather, so the roof has to be replaced, has to have some masonry done, some things like that so it won't be damaged beyond repair."

The plan is to reopen the building this fall.  The first of the homes to be rebuilt in Marysville will be dedicated next weekend.
