Beshear calls special election to replace Davis

Posted: Updated:

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Gov. Steve Beshear has scheduled a special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis for Nov. 6 -- the same day as the general election.

That saves taxpayers the cost of holding the special election on a separate day. It also means 4th District residents will be without a congressman for a while longer.

Beshear spokeswoman Kerri Richardson announced the special election on Friday.

Republican Thomas Massie, a tea party favorite, is running against Democrat Bill Adkins, a lawyer from northern Kentucky.

Davis resigned in July, citing a family health issue. He had already taken himself out of the running for re-election.
