LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB Fox 41)---Brown colored water is not an unfamiliar sight for some Charlestown residents.
In January, we showed you video taken in Charlestown of water the color of coffee.
Officials attributed it to aging water lines and said they were fixing the problem.
"On February 6th is when we started the introduction of the product Clearitas in order to help with the discoloration problem, to remove the buildup that's occurred over the years in the mains," says Mike Perry, the Charlestown Wastewater Department Director.
Some Charlestown residents say they're seeing the darker water again, and especially noticed it on Thursday.
"It's almost black when it comes out. You try to filter it. You have to filter it 3 or 4 times," says Jennifer McIntyre.
On Thursday, McIntyre noticed the darker water again.
Mike Perry, the Charlestown Wastewater Department Director, says the problem throughout the city has gotten better, with the number of complaints dropping from dozens each month to only a handful.
However, he noticed there were more calls on Thursday due to an incident that he says stirred the lines and created discolored water.
"There was a fire suppression pump that was activated for testing in the Industrial Park area, and doing this, it created a disturbance within the water system," says Mike Perry.
He says the water is safe though, and many customers have noticed changes from what they saw months ago.
But, for customers like McIntyre, that's news she's surprised to hear. She says her water is still dark and continues to deal with this problem daily.
"I complained 3 times in 2 weeks, so I know that's not right," says Jennifer McIntyre.
"We want to get this cleared up just as bad as the customer wants it. We're working every direction we can to get this done," says Mike Perry.
Mike Perry says when they started the treatment in February, they let people know it could be 18 to 24 months before they may notice the problem completely gone.
This means it could be another year, or year and a half before the darker water goes away for all customers.
