FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) -- Police in Frankfort shot and killed a man while responding to a domestic violence call after police say he pointed a gun at Kentucky State Police troopers.

Troopers responded to a call around 10 p.m. on Friday night at a home where they found an injured woman in the driveway and a man with a handgun inside.

Trooper Ron Turley told The State Journal that troopers ordered the man numerous times to put the gun down, but he pointed the gun at the troopers and they shot him multiple times.

The man, who has not yet been identified, died at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. Turley said the man had active warrants for assault and burglary.

The troopers have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation continues.
