Glasgow firefighters building 9/11 memorial

Posted: Updated:

GLASGOW, Ky. (AP) -- Firefighters in south-central Kentucky are trying to finish a memorial that includes part of an I-beam from the World Trade Center in enough time to dedicate it on Sept. 11.

Glasgow Fire Chief Tony Atwood told the Daily News that the department is spreading the word about the memorial in an effort to raise the $5,000 needed to finance the project.

Fire Lt. Jeff Manning, who designed the memorial, says it will stretch about 5 feet wide and stand about 6 feet tall. A pool of water in front of the monument will feature a clock face that shoots water at the times when planes crashed during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. A bench will sit in front of the pool.
