Charlie Strong has U of L football parked in the AP pre-season Top 25.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – The University of Louisville starts
the 2012 season ranked in the Associated Press college football Top 25 poll.
North Carolina State does not, even though the Wolfpack are ranked 25th
by Sports Illustrated and they defeated the Cardinals by a touchdown in the
Belk Bowl.
What's going on?
I say the vote is a reflection of the respect voters in the
AP poll have for Charlie Strong and the work he has done at Louisville.
Remember this: The first poll of the new season is usually a reflection of the
old season.
Check the 2011 records of the Top 25. You'll notice 19 of
the teams won at least 10 games last season. Two other teams won nine.
Louisville was only 7-6. Only one pre-season Top 25 team won
fewer than seven games in 2011. That's Ohio State (6-7), and the Buckeyes are a
pre-season Top 25 fixture and have hired Urban Meyer as their coach.
Charlie Strong has given U of L an improved football product
– and national credibility. The AP pre-season poll is a reflection of that.
