FLORENCE, Ky. (AP) -- A Kentucky National Guard unit based in northern Kentucky has returned home after spending a year in Kuwait.
A statement from the National Guard says 225 soldiers from the 1204th Aviation Support Battalion were welcomed home on Saturday during a ceremony at the Florence Freedom baseball field in Florence. The unit provided maintenance and signal support for military operations while deployed in the Persian Gulf.
Lt. Col. Tom Roach says all the soldiers "served honorably" while overseas.
Soldiers said they were happy to be home. Spc. Daniel Morrison of Florence said it was nice to see trees and grass again, and he was looking forward to a steak dinner.
